Any one entering a campus will have the dream of placements...
Tat too in a campus like anna...
I had too...
I still remember asking one of the final yr CSE guy "Will I get placed?" during my first semester!!
(Initially he laughed and then started ragging me after tat!)
But it was INFY which changed the mood of placements... Coming late in 2003 campus, it took 205 from Anna Univ and from that point the placement records have never looked back..205 was a record at that time...
I was at TATA Infotech, Bangalore when the 2004 placements started and i was gettin continuous updates about the placements...It was great to hear the numbers...230(TCS),250(Infy),283(CTS),Wipro(105).... During the proj I started preparing for campus (may be only for infy and cts as I was just solving puzzles!!!)
When it came to the placement representative work, i hesitated a bit to take up ( As i was thinking that it may affect my preparation and also Sadeesh(BE) was against it). But finally i made my mind as Sathish(my class) also accepted to be representative. I would appreciate this decision of mine always in the future as i believe the work I did as a PR was one of my best acheivements.
The placement work started with the design of brochures ( which was not useful as we expected) ... My self & Kali (My class mate) took more than one month to complete the design. Brochure came good and thanks to the department for paying for it.
I really didnt know what to do as a PR initially (but in the later part the need was obvious... A little courage(!!!),Willingness to spend a good part of your time and most importanly LOT , LOT & LOT of patience). The most challenging part was making sure that the companies coming in knows the existence of such a course at Anna University.
I did not have any problem with CTS or TCS or INFY as they mentioned that all branches are eligible. But I did not have any idea about other companies... I never expected that all these worries would disappear in a single day... That day was the 1st day of our campus placements 2006...29th may 2006. (I would rather say Campus festival!!!)...
1600 appeared …. 1100 short listed for interviews… 504 offered …. In college
42 appeared…….. 32 short listed……………………. 22 offered…… in my class
(Best strike rate was my class!!!)
As 50 percent of my class got through the first company, we had very few worries there after and TCS was the next… In the ppt, TCS gave a build up as though they are going to offer all the remaining students… but most of us were disappointed as TCS only offered 76 students and 4 from my class…. It was said that TCS purposely rejected many in the HR rounds…. (No one knows what happened inside!!!)

It was my friend sadeesh(with TRILOGY now) who inspired me to join anna univ...He joined B.E CSE here ...
(fortunately or unfortunately i could not get tat many marks!!) When we joined in 2001, it was the IT recession
period and the campus placements were very very average one! Even 30% of CSE were not placed at that time..
